Down memory lane

I got a call from Dallas (not the city in the US) to have a look at his house in Durban that needs upgrading. The house is located in one of the original suburbs of Durban, where in the early days some 45 years ago, I was senior property salesperson for a well-know estate agency.

The average going price for a solidly-built house, like the one illustrated, was R9 000. It was a memorable experience for me, seeing all the old houses still in good condition, and with upgrading in progress all over.Dallas wanted his newly-acquired home to be modernised and upgraded to suit his family’s lifestyle.

Adding a lounge and attractive entrance porch was paramount. An en suite to the main bedroom was also essential. The braai area at the sunny rear of the house is where most of their leisure hours would be spent and the arched driveway entrance on the side of the house can accommodate a roll-down garage door, to keep the dogs in.
