Michael van Vuuren, product specialist for high-horsepower tractors at Case IH, said during a media briefing at Nampo 2026 that the Magnum series continues a legacy that dates back to the well-known 7100 and 7200 models.

“The Magnum has always been known for reliability and power. Now, with the latest technology integration, it is also about gathering data to help farmers make better decisions for the future,” he said.

More power across the range

The updated Magnum line-up delivers more power, with horsepower increased by 15hp across the 265 to 355 models and 5hp across the 385 to 405 models. The series also now offers outputs ranging from 197kW to 301kW, depending on the model.

But the improvements are not simply about adding horsepower; they’re also about ensuring that power is transferred efficiently to the ground.

“It doesn’t help to have all the horsepower if you cannot transfer it to the soil. The more wheel slip you have, the more diesel you burn,” Van Vuuren explained.

To improve traction and efficiency, the tractors are available with different tyre and wheel configurations, including row-crop tyres, high-flotation 710 tyres, single front-wheel setups, and dual-wheel options on both the front and rear axles.

Suspension improves traction and comfort

One of the standout features in the new range is the front suspension system, which serves a dual purpose. While improving operator comfort, it also helps tyres maintain contact with the soil, improving traction and reducing wheel slip.

The tractors can also be specified with different cab and seat packages, including leather seats with advanced comfort features aimed at reducing operator fatigue during long working days.

Precision farming integration

The tractors are fully compatible with the Case IH FieldOps platform, allowing farmers to collect and monitor machine and operational data in real time.

The system integrates with the tractor’s Pro 1200 display, enabling operators to manage tractor functions while monitoring implement performance through a secondary display.

Van Vuuren said this level of connectivity is becoming increasingly important as producers pay closer attention to input costs, fuel usage, and operational efficiency.

The range is also designed to handle demanding modern implements. The tractors feature a hydraulic flow rate of 328ℓ/minute and come standard with six rear selective control valves, allowing operators to run large planters and other hydraulic-intensive equipment effectively.

Fuel efficiency

According to Van Vuuren, independent field tests conducted under ripping conditions recorded fuel consumption as low as 13,63ℓ/ha on the older Magnum 340 model, while tests on the new Magnum 355 showed fuel usage of roughly 10ℓ/ha to 12ℓ/ha, depending on operating conditions.

All the tractors in the updated range feature a new PowerDrive transmission designed to optimise power delivery and improve fuel efficiency. The smaller models – 265,285, and 325 – have 19/4 transmissions, and the bigger models – 355, 385, and 405 – have 21/5 transmissions.

“It isn’t only about power; it’s about the entire drivetrain working to get that power to the soil as efficiently as possible,” Van Vuuren added.

Case IH used Nampo to launch a campaign allowing selected farmers to test a Magnum 355 tractor on their own farms for 40 hours. The initiative aims to demonstrate the tractor’s fuel efficiency and drivability under real operating conditions.
