Developed by John Deere’s European Technology Innovation Centre in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and available commercially in Europe later this year, the Remote Display Access (RDA) telematics solution allows an operator working on a JD tractor, combine harvester, self-propelled sprayer or forage harvester to receive immediate assistance from the fleet or farm manager, or directly from the dealer.

That includes support for machine and implement set-up (including ISOBUS), optimisation and troubleshooting. Potential machine down time or insufficient use of equipment in the lands can thereby be significantly reduced. When required, the operator calls the relevant expert for assistance on a cellphone. From anywhere in the world, that person can then log on via a dedicated website and view the machine’s onboard GreenStar 2630 display unit on their own computer or smart phone. This helps them to identify any problems, assist the operator in navigating the steps needed to resolve an issue or ensure correct settings.

Remote Display Access allows customers and technicians to check equipment from a portable device in the office or lands.

A major benefit

The RDA system is a new addition to John Deere’s FarmSight initiative (below), which connects equipment, owners, operators, dealers and consultants in order to enhance productivity, increase efficiency and reduce overall input costs. The major benefit claimed for RDA users is the ability to remotely view the display screen and see exactly what the operator sees in the cab in order to ensure that the equipment is operating correctly, provide training or to resolve problems. This saves unnecessary trips out to the lands and improves the service offered by dealers and consultants.
