Great tasting premiums from grass-fed beef

A niche market is growing for grass-fed beef amongst consumers. An entrepreneurial couple in the Kwazulu-Natal Midlands is tapping into this, with their all-natural beef fetching around R20/kg more than grain-fed beef at R69,98/kg.Lloyd Phillips reports.

A game rancher’s wish list

The authorities don't recognise wildlife ranchers as agriculturists. Farmers who sell or hunt game on their properties can't benefit from land tax rebates or drought relief even though many run mixed livestock/game enterprises.

Eastern Cape lechwe herd under legislative siege

God has shown me so many times, in my life as a farmer, impossible situations turn around through prayer and faith and become quite normal. I think farmers need more faith to farm in this age then they did 100 years ago. Things are getting so critical and the margin of error is so great, without faith in God it can't be done.
