As always, the Nedbank Eston Show was well-attended and served as a showcase for a number of interesting and useful items of agricultural machinery:
Remlinger four-row PST strip till unit (above right)
The latest PST ‘strip builder’ models reflect improvements inspired by feedback from many satisfied customers. The PST creates residue-free planting strips with better soil aeration. It can apply granular or liquid fertiliser.
John Deere 5090EH Hi-clear
This tractor is powered by the John Deere PowerTech 4045T 4,5 litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine rated at 67kW. Front axle ground clearance is 777mm.
JCB 1CX skidsteer with back-hoe
The 600kg capacity JCB 1CX is the smallest model in the JCB backhoe-loader range. It can turn on its own axis to work in confined spaces. Full servo-controlled hydrostatic transmission enables the JCB 1CX to accelerate from zero to maximum speed, in forward or reverse.
SAFMech 16-disc harrow
The SAFMech factory in Merrivale in the heart of the KZN Midlands boasts an impressive array of modern implements and trailers with almost every component in the product range being manufactured in-house. The 16-disc harrow has two gangs of 610mm scalloped discs, spaced at 235mm, with a ground pressure of 80kg/disc. Working width is 1 890mm.
Kubota BX25D Tractor-loader-backhoe
Powerful, versatile, comfortable and compact, the BX25D is suitable for all kinds of small jobs, from mowing the lawn to heavy-duty landscaping. It has a three-cylinder diesel engine rated at 17,2kW and hydrostatic transmission with two speed ranges in forward and reverse. The bucket lifts to a height of 1 810mm; the back-hoe digs to a depth of 1 842mm and loads to a height of 1 533mm.
Valtra N123
With its compact design, the N123 is ideal for both stock and crop farms, and is an excellent loader tractor. It is rated at 99kW with power boost to 105kW.
Ford Transit ELWB: The Ford Transit
ELWB (extra-long wheelbase) with drop side body is useful for taking produce to market and for general short-haul road transport. It is powered by the Ford Duratorq TCDi 2,2 litre four-cylinder diesel rated at 74kW. GVM is 4 700kg and gross payload is 2 691kg. The load bin has generous dimensions: 5 150mm long, 2 081mm wide with 400mm high drop-sides.
