Braai by light

Be the envy of your braai buddies with these innovative and sophisticated braai tongs.

A braai tong with built-in illumination is nothing new. But the Butte Torch Tong is certainly the simplest, most efficient and most elegant example of this concept that I have seen. Conceived and designed in Cape Town by enthusiastic braaiers, its

functionality and stylishness set new standards. It is crafted in stainless steel and silicone rubber and uses LED illumination.

Even its elegantly polished finish sets it apart from other illuminated braai tongs. At the SABS Design Institute’s DISA Awards for design excellence in 2007, it swept the board. It’s such a pity that this award scheme, one of the oldest and most prestigious of its type in the world, fell by the wayside in the perpetual restructuring of that once-proud institution.

When utilising your new Butte Torch Tong at your weekend braai, friends and family will gather around the grill to goggle at it. Their enthusiasm will fade after a few weeks, however, because everyone will have gone out and purchased one of their own.

Guard you torch carefully when braaiing in the bush – it will be a magnet for baboons and monkeys, who will no doubt be seduced by its shape and glittering appearance!

The Butte Torch Tong sells for about R250, VAT included, at better braai and kitchen equipment stores countrywide.
